The profiles below focus only on the player’s time spent in Toronto, exclusively recognizing their accomplishments as a player with the Argos and why they were elected to this prestigious group. Any statistics, or individual or team awards achieved with other teams are not included in their profiles, nor are their non-playing accomplishments.
#9 DAMON ALLEN: Though he starred for several teams, Allen’s most productive time may have been spent in Double Blue. The dual-threat quarterback was named the league’s Most Outstanding Player in 2005, a year after leading theArgos to a Grey Cup win over BC, a game in which he scored a pair of touchdowns and was named the MVP.
Allen spent five years in Toronto. He’s third in most passing yards and in touchdown passes thrown by an Argo. Allen was named an All-Time Argo in 2023 and was elected to theCanadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
#52 LES ASCOTT: Ascott played on five Grey Cup championship teams as an Argo, 1937-38 and 1945-47. He was the first person to play 100 games in Double Blue. Ascott played primarily offensive tackle but also lined up at guard on the offensive line, and tackle on the defensive side. Named an All-Star in 1945.
He left the Argos following the 1941 season to join the Canadian Navy, then returned to the Argos in 1945. A former team captain, Ascott was named anAll-Time Argo in 2004.
#31 MICHAEL CLEMONS: Nobody in pro football history carried the ball for more yards than Clemons, who accumulated 25,438 combined yards in his 185 CFL games, all spent with the Argos. “Pinball” won three Grey Cups as a player, and is the team leader in receptions, punt return yards, and kickoff return yards. His 85 total touchdowns rank second in team history, as do his 5,341 rushing yards, and he is the only Argo to record multiple 100+ reception seasons, leading the league in each of those years. He holds the CFL record with 364 combined yards in a playoff game.
He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 1990 and was twice named the Argos MOP.He is one of just four players to have his number retired by the team. Clemons was a two-time CFL All-Star, was named an All-Time Argos in 2000 and elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
#77 ROYAL COPELAND: Copeland will forever be linked with Joe Krol as “The Gold Dust Twins,” a dynamic combination that dominated the league. The speedy half back and defensive back won four Grey Cups with the Argos. He is the only player to score touchdowns in three straight Grey Cup games, the Argos three peat of 1945-47. His six playoff touchdowns, not including his Grey Cup TDs, ranks second in team history.
He was named a league All-Star four times. He was awarded the Russel Trophy in 1949.Copeland was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and named anAll-Time Argo in 1997.

He was named the East’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 1970.
Corrigall’s stats aren’t a reflection of his ability, as sacks and defensive tackles weren’t recorded until 1980 and 1987 respectively. He is credited with 16 fumble recoveries, second most in team history. He was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1990 and named an All-Time Argo in 1997.
#81 ULYSSES CURTIS: The first Black player to star with the Argos, and first American to star at running back for Toronto. In 1952 he came within 6 yards of becoming the first 1,000-yard rusher in team history, an accomplishment not realized in Toronto for another 6 years.
Curtis played five seasons in Double Blue, saving his best efforts for the playoffs. His 7 playoff touchdowns, excluding Grey Cup games, still ranks first in Argo history. In1950 he scored 25 points in a playoff season, tied for the team record until2024. He was named an All-Time Argo in 2005.

Flutie threw for a club record 5,720 yards in 1996, then 5,505 yards in ‘97, which ranks third on the list. He set team records with 47 touchdown passes in a season and with TD passes in 21-consecutive games.

#10 TERRY GREER: Became the first CFL player to record 2,000 receiving yard in a season, finishing with 2,003 in 1983. He’d end his career with 6,817 receiving yards, fifth in team history. Greer co-holds the CFL record with 16 catches in a game, and the outright team lead with a 246-yard game. He holds the team record with 11,100+ yard games in a season and would finish his career with 25100-or-more-yard games, and 5 games with 200 or more yards, including hitting that milestone in three consecutive games. His 109-yard touchdown on a kickoff return is one yard off the team record.
Greer was named the East Division’s Most Outstanding Player in 1983, an East All-Star 4times, and a CFL All-Star twice. He was elected to the Canadian FootballHall of Fame in 2019 and named to the inaugural group of All-Time Argos in 1996.

#54 ED HARRINGTON: A powerful force off the edge, Harrington was one of the strongest players in the league. A true gentleman off the field, he was a ferocious player who holds the team record with three career fumble recoveries for touchdowns.
Harrington was a 4-time East All-Star and was named a CFL All-Star three consecutive years 1968-70. He was named the Argos Most Outstanding Lineman in 1968 and was named an All-Time Argo in 2010.

Krol won 5 Grey Cup titles in Toronto,1945-47, ’50, and ’52, playing quarterback, running back, defensive back, while also punting and place kicking. He recorded a 95-yard punt, the fourth-longest in team history. His 6 career Grey Cup touchdown passes is still the Argo record. His 103-yard TD catch from Tobin Rote in 1960 ranks third all-time. Mann led the league in catches in 1961 and tied for the lead in catches and led the league in receiving yards in 1960. He scored 24 playoff points in 1968, tied for fourth in team history.
Mann was involved in the longest play in CFL history, as Boyd Carter returned a missed field goal 15 yards, then before he got out of the end zone he lateralled it to Mann, who took it 116 yards for a 131-yard TD. Mann’s 102-yard punt is tied for second in Argo history. He was named an East All-Star twice. He was named an All-Time Argo in 2005.

#36 DON MOEN: A model of consistency, nobody suited up in more games as an Argo than Moen, who played 222 games in Double Blue, 198 of them consecutively. The linebacker is credited with 503 tackles 34.5 sacks, and 15 fumble recoveries, but his tackle total would be substantially higher as that statistic wasn’t kept until 1987. His 15 tackles in Grey Cup games is tied for the team record.

#22 DICK SHATTO: The team’s all-time rushing leader with 7,007, Shatto was named the Argos Most Outstanding Player eight times and the East MOP three times. A career Argo, he played 159 games in Double Blue. He holds team records with 91 touchdowns, and 38 rushing touchdowns. His 52 receiving TDs is tied for second in club history.
Shatto was named an East All-Star eight times, a CFL All-Star twice. In 1958 he became the first Argo to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season. He was named a CFL All-Star in each of his first two years and again in his fourth year and was voted the Argos Most Outstanding Lineman in each of his first three seasons. In 1972 the undersized defensive tackle was named the Most Outstanding Lineman in the East.
Incredibly quick for an interior lineman, Stillwagon became known for his tenacity on the field, playing every down as if it was his last. Stillwagon was named an All-Time Argo in 2009.
#33 BILL SYMONS: A dominant running back, Symons became the first Argo to be named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 1968. He’s third all-time in team rushing. Symons holds the records for the longest regular season run, 98 yards, and the longest playoff run, 100 yards, which is also the CFL playoff record.
His four consecutive games with over 100 rushing yards is still the team record. He was named the Argos Most Outstanding Player twice and a CFL All-Star twice. Symons was named to the inaugural group of All-Time Argos in 1996 and elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
#66 BILL ZOCK: Zock played for 17 years in the CFL, a decade of which was with the Argos. Playing guard and tackle over the course of his career, he was known as an exceptionally strong player who used intimidation as a big part of his repertoire.
Zock was named an All-Star in 1946 and ’47. He was officially on three GreyCup winning teams with the Argos as a part of the team’s three peat 1945-47. He was also on the Argos team for Cup wins in his first two seasons 1937-38, but he was not a part of the game day roster, so he isn’t officially credited with those wins, though he was certainly a member of five Grey Cup winning Argo teams. He was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1984 and named an All-Time Argo in 1999.
Hayman joined the organization in 1932 as the interim head coach. The “interim” title was dropped the next year, and the Argos went on to win the Grey Cup. Hayman would lead the club to two more championships in 1937 and 1938. He’d leave the organization following the 1940 season.
After leading Toronto RCAF to the 1942 title, then co-founding the Montreal Alouettes, Hayman returned to the Argos in 1956. He would hold several titles, including president, managing director, and vice-chairman and director until he left the club following the team’s Grey Cup win in 1983.
Hayman is second to only Bob O’Billovich in seasons spent coaching the Argos, has the most playoff wins, and is tied with the legendary Ted Morris with 3 Grey Cups wins as a head coach, the most by an Argo head coach.
He spent a total of 37 seasons with the Argos. Hayman was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1975and was in the inaugural group of All-Time Argo Builders in 2024.
One of the greatest ambassadors the Argos ever had, Peter Martin joined the organization as a player in 1965 and retired after the 1972 season.
While he was an outstanding linebacker and a team captain, number 77’s contributions to the Argonauts were not limited to the gridiron. In 1977 he would begin a lengthy career as the colour commentator on Argo radio broadcasts. His insight and passion made him a fan favourite, and he held the position, aside from a handful of years, until the conclusion of the 2010 season.
Martin was also the president of the Argos Alumni Association for many years, finally stepping down following the 100th Grey Cup season in 2012.
In 2000 he was named to the media wing of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. In 2016 the Canadian Football League Alumni Association named Martin and Michael Clemons as its Men of the Year.
Martin was in the inaugural group of All-Time Argo Builders in 2024.
“Obie” arrived in 1982 to take over a team that had not been to the Grey Cup in 30 years. O’Billovich’s Argonauts made the Grey Cup in his first year, then won it a season later by beating the BC Lions in Vancouver. He’d also lead the team to the championship game in 1987.
After then spending three seasons with the Lions, O’Billovich returned to coach the Argos in 1993 and added theGM title a year later.
He is the all-time Argos leader in seasons coached, games coached, games won, most regular-season division titles, most playoff appearances, and he is tied with Lew Hayman and Teddy Morris for most Grey Cup appearances.
O’Billovich was in the inaugural group of All-Time Argo Builders in 2024.
